MBM course overview
This one-year masters degree provides a truly transformative business education that will take your career to new heights.
The Waikato MBM will prepare you to take on a wide range of management and leadership roles, and provide you with a keen understanding of the modern global business world.
It's specially designed for graduates of any bachelor's degree – such as arts, engineering, IT, teaching or social sciences – who wish to enhance their employability and increase their future earning potential. Previous business experience is not required.
Over 12 months, you'll hone your skills in all aspects of business: planning for strategic growth, marketing, digital business, economics, financial analysis, human resources, global business, supply chain management, design thinking and innovation, and commercial law.
You'll also develop strong problem solving and critical thinking skills; learn how to carry out business research and analyse data, communicate well and deliver impressive presentations, and gain the confidence to lead teams of people.
You can start the MBM programme in either March or November.
Waikato is proud to have the only MBM programme in New Zealand - and one of less than 50 worldwide - that's accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA). This is an assurance of international quality for students and employers alike.
You'll be studying at a highly regarded business school that's ranked in the world's top 1%, having held Triple Crown Accreditation for more than 12 years.
After graduating, you may be eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Visa to remain in New Zealand for up to 12 months while you look for a job.
Practical business learning
Throughout the MBM degree, you'll become aware of your own abilities as a future business leader or entrepreneur. Your learning experience is designed to be practical, relevant, challenging, and inspiring.
Each of the 16 papers in the course is 2-3 weeks, with about 10 hours of classes per week.
Learning is through a mix of classroom lectures, real-world case studies, group assignments, video, social media, creative problem solving and reflective learning.
You'll also undertake a one-month internship at a local business - arranged by us - while completing a Business Research Project that delivers real value to you and the company.
Our students have done their internships in a wide range of industries, including aviation, healthcare, IT, agriculture, banking, finance, education, government, and not-for-profit organisations.
For the Action Learning Project, you'll work in small teams to develop a plan for your own start-up business. At the end of the course, you'll take part in a 'Dragons' Den' competition, where you'll pitch your ideas to a group of senior managers.
You can apply for the MBM if you have:
- A bachelor's degree in any subject discipline, or its equivalent, from an approved university
