At Waikato Management School we offer a range of short courses in Hamilton and Tauranga, delivered by experts in their areas, which blend practical learning with real-world case studies.
All courses will be delivered on campus, face-to-face - they are not available online. If the courses cannot be delivered face-to-face for any reason, they will be rescheduled to a later date, or you will receive a full refund.
Please note these courses are only open to New Zealand Citizens and Permanent Residents.
Food and Fibre Insights
This self-paced, part-time course is designed for professionals who want to better understand the frontiers of New Zealand’s food and fibre landscape.
Over six weeks, participants will gain a critical understanding of key topics such as the future of food nutrition; value chains, supply chains and logistics; bio-innovation and biotechnology; the critical role of freshwater and oceans in the global food system; food safety and provenance; and changing consumer needs.
Industry experts will deliver each of the six online sessions, including Ian Proudfoot, KPMG’s Global Head of Agribusiness; and leading economists Professor Frank Scrimgeour and Dr Zack Dorner, both from the University of Waikato’s Management School.
They will be joined by guest presenters Dr Julian Elder, CEO of Scion; Emma Wheeler, head of strategy at Trust Codes; Paul Martin, head of Retail UK; Volker Kuntzsch, CEO of the Cawthron Institute; Andrew Watene and Paulette Elliott from KPMG Propagate; and Justine Fitzmaurice from KPMG Management Consulting.
The course will be delivered in a blended format via videos, short readings and tests, so you can learn when it suits you (4-6 hours’ time commitment per week).
You will need to engage in a weekly online discussion workshop (Thursdays, 4.00pm-5.30pm), plus a half-day workshop.

Finance for Non-Financial Managers
Make better informed decisions and break down barriers to accounting by learning modern financial tools that will help you understand and manage your business better. This workshop uses practical activities to get you comfortable conversing in the language of finance.

Project Management – The Basic Principles
Achieve positive results within deadline and on budget.
Effective project management executes and delivers positive change in an organisation. To do this involves technical skills, such as critical path analysis and Gantt charting, as well as people skills, including motivating, influencing and managing intergroup conflict.

Design Thinking for Business Impact
Design Thinking for Business Impact is a new short course that provides an intensive introduction to design thinking. It offers practical coaching from industry practitioners and formal accreditation from the University of Waikato.
The course is ideal for individuals or teams who are new to design thinking, or looking for a refresher and want to rapidly get to grips with design thinking in practice.
